En battant Liverpool grâce à un doublé de Filippo Inzaghi (2-1), le Milan AC a pris sa revanche sur les Reds et remporte sa septième C1. Les Lombards n'ont pas joué le meilleur match de leur saison mais, globalement dominés par Liverpool, ont fait la différence par leurs individualités.
